June Linger, 79, Housewife, enjoyed gardening and traveling

June Louise Linger (nee Riffle), 79, of Amherst, passed away Friday, October 31, 2003 at Community Health Partners H & S Center in Lorain following a lingering illness.

Born December 23, 1923 in Mt. Clair, West Virginia, she was raised ant lived there before moving to Lorain. She was a resident of Lorain for 43 years, prior to moving to Brownhelm Township twelve years ago.

Mrs. Linger was a housewife and mother and was a member of Victory Baptist Temple in Elyria. She was also a former member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lorain, now Fellowship Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church. She was employed at Kohlmeyer Supply in Lorain for a brief time and was also a worker for the Lorain City Board of Elections. June was a volunteer tutor at Lowell Elementary School in Lorain. Over the years at her church, she had been active as a Sunday School Teacher, in the missionary groups, and was a part of the Naomi Group at Church of the Open Door in Elyria. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and traveling.

Survivors include her son, Steven E. Linger of Lorain; her daughter Barbara Yearly of Amherst; six grandchildren; and her sister, Marjorie Dent of Salem, West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Quentin Fred Linger on February 8, 1990; by her parents John and Anna (nee Landis) Riffle; her brothers Jay Riffle, John Riffle, Jesse Riffle, and Jack Riffle; and by three infant siblings.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Avenue, in Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. from Victory Baptist Temple, 45155 Telegraph Road, Elyria. The Reverend Jeffrey Smale, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
