Maxine L. Virgin, 78, Avid golfer, enjoyed roller skating
Maxine L. Virgin (nee Fisher), 78, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday, October 31, 2003 at Akron City Hospital suddenly from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.She was born on March 22, 1929 in Shelleyville, Indiana. She moved to Lorain at age twelve and graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1943. She has been a resident of Amherst for the last 15 years.
She was employed by the Lorain Steel Fabricating Service for thirty years as a secretary and also for Lorain County Human Services for five years as a secretary. She volunteered with the Community Health Partners H & S Center in Lorain and with the Meals on Wheels program. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed roller-skating. She was also an avid bowler and was inducted in to the Lorain County Bowling Hall of Fame and served as the treasurer of her bowling league. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, in Lorain, and the Alter Society.
Survivors include her sister Ruth Rich of Lorain; two nieces: Sharon Aschenbach and Sandra Hamm, both of Amherst; two nephews, Joseph Rich and Jeffery Rich, both of South Amherst; and several great nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Esther Fisher (nee McClain); her brothers, Walter and James Fisher; and her sisters, Lois Brodka and Janet Fisher.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, in Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 647 Reid Avenue, in Lorain. The Reverend Fr. Stephen Sedgwick, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Memorial Park, in Amherst Township.
