Richard Williams, 81, Enjoyed westerns and telling stories

Richard “Pops” D. William, 81 years of age, and a resident of Vermilion, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Oberlin Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 12, 1922 in Beckley, West Virginia where he lived till moving to Akron, Ohio in 1953. He resided in Oberlin from 1954-1978. He has resided with his son Eddie in Amherst and Vermilion for the last 19 years.

He was a veteran of World War II. Richard was employed by Oberlin College for 27 years, retiring in 1985 from the building and ground maintenance department. He was a long time member of the Masonic Order. He enjoyed old westerns and telling stories.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years Pauline Williams (nee Kidd); his son Eddie Williams of Vermilion; one grandchild; three step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; his brothers Junior Williams; Bobby Williams; and Lonnie Williams, all of West Virginia, and Roy Lee Williams of Elyria; his aunt Eva Smith of West Virginia; his adopted brother Dennis Williams of West Virginia; and by his parents Arthur and Mary Ethel Williams (nee Berry); and by his sisters Lois McClug and Alma Coughlin.

Friends may call Saturday from 1-3:30 p.m. at the Hemple Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Steve and Mary Hammond, pastors of Peace Community Church in Oberlin, will officiate.
