Rocco Arquillo, 82, World War II Veteran

Born on August 14, 1921 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, he moved to this area in 1951.

Rocco was employed at the former Thew Shovel as a lift truck operator for 26 � years, and then worked at Parker-Hannifin for 3 years, until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, in Lorain, Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 and the Amvets Post #47. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening, electrical work, and working on cars.

Mr. Arquillo served in the United States Army as a Tech/5 during World War II. He participated in the battles of the Southern Philippines and Ryukyus. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation with two bronze stars, the Bronze Service Arrowhead Landings Leyte P.I., the Okinawa Shima and American Campaign Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary J. (nee Bowers); sons: Lawrence Arquillo, Dennis Arquillo, both of Lorain, Frank Arquillo, of Michigan, and Thomas Arquillo, of Cleveland; one daughter, Annette Reisner of Cleveland Heights; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Yolonda Panichelle, of New Alexander, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominick and Angela (nee Bioncodine); one son: John Arquillo; brothers: Daniel, Victor, and Frank; and sisters: Anna Clement, Jeannie Campomizzi, and Helen Arquillo.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 17, 2003 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home; 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
