James A. Mitchell, 89, Enjoyed gardening and yardwork

James A. Mitchell, 89, a resident of Amherst, passed away November 17, 2003 at Community Health Partners H & S Center, Lorain, following a brief illness.

He was born November 8, 1914 in Chesterland where he was raised. He was a resident of Cleveland prior to moving to Amherst in 1948.

He was employed as a sheet metal worker at A. Nabakowski Co. for 30 years and also for the former Gillford Co., now CIBA-Corning in Oberlin for over 10 years, retiring in 1980. James enjoyed yard work and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Anna Louise Mitchell (nee Sroka); son: William Mitchell of Amherst; daughter Sandra Williams of Amherst Township; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister: Betty Macauda of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Emily Mitchell (nee Magel); and by his sister Marie Vild in August 2003.

Services were held privately by the family with the Reverend Doug Yost, pastor of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
