Lloyd E. Dycus, 83, World War II Veteran
Lloyd E. Dycus Jr., 83, of Vermilion, died Sunday, November 23, 2003 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 23, 1920 in Dyersburg, TN. He was a Vermilion resident since 1958, moving from Memphis, Tennessee. He had also lived in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Mr. Dycus had served in the United States Army during World War II. He received a Purple Heart and was an elite front line infantryman. He was awarded the Presidential Situation, and Expert Shooting Badge and an Infantry Rifleman Badge.
Lloyd had worked as a heavy motor repairman for Ford Motor in Lorain. He worked there for 33 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the Scottish Rite of Cleveland, a 32nd Degree Mason, Ely Lodge #424 “Blue Lodge”, the Shriners; U.A.W. #425 and life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed carving on powder horns, woodworking, antique trucks, drawing and carving.
Survivors include his wife, Christy Lynn (nee Rogers) of Vermilion; sons: Robert “Buddy” Dycus of New Salisbury, IN, Arthur “Denny” Dycus of Lincoln University, PA, Bradley “Brad” Dycus of Lorain, and Perry Dycus of Lorain; step-daughters: Ronda James of Plumerville, Arkansas, and Angela Jernigan if Little Rock, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother: Bobby Dycus of Warner Robin, Georgia; and a sister: Martha Yonger of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Virginia in 1988; parents Lloyd E. Sr. and Birtie (nee Rogers) Dycus; a baby daughter; and a sister: Alcoba Scarborough.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home; 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., conducted by Ely Lodge #424.
Graveside services will be held at Old Enterprise Baptist Church Cemetery in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Brother Mike Glover will officiate. Military graveside services will be held.
Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home; 1601 E. Johnson, Jonesboro, Arkansas, will handle the arrangements.
