Thomas G. Stitak, Sr., 83, World War II U.S. Army Veteran

Mr. Stitak was born May 23, 1920 in Lorain, Ohio and had been a life-long resident of the city. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving as a Sergeant with Company E of the 94th Infantry Regiment Division. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service medal with four Bronze Stars, the American Theater Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a life member for Mullen-Murray Post #451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lorain.
A parishioner of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, he was employed as a master electrician, with Local #129 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired in 1982 following thirty-eight years of service. He had previously been employed by the Western Automatic Corporation of Elyria.
Mr. Stitak was a member of the Black River Historical Society as well as the American Slovak Club. He attended the Lorain Senior Center, and was active in delivering Meals-On-Wheels to the shut-in throughout the community.
His main hobby was building dollhouses.
He is survived by his daughter: Veletta Tusa residing in Greenboro, Georgia, by sons: Thomas, Jr., Kevin, and Kurt all residing in Lorain, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a brother: Carl of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Jean E. (nee Knight) in 2002, by his parents: Andrew and Anna (nee Martincak) Stitak, by brothers: Andrew, John, Emil, Frank (Fritz), and Anthony, and by sisters: Anna Radman and Mary E. Mate.
Private family services were held Monday in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain, with the Reverend Daniel O. Divis, pastor of Saint Mary Catholic Church officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
