Amelia J. Cassidy, 83, Enjoyed her grandchildren and bingo
Amelia J. Cassidy, (nee Duray), age 83, of Lorain, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Community Health Partners Hospital Health and Surgical Center, Lorain, following a brief illness.Born November 14, 1920 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, she came to Lorain in 1923 and has lived here since.
She worked as a machine operator for General Industries in Elyria, during the 1950’s.
Amelia was an active member of S. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, where she belonged to the Mothers Club and the Altar and Rosary Society. She had volunteered at the church helping with the Wednesday afternoon bingo, and in the cafeteria of the parish school.
She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, bingo, cooking, watching sports on television, gardening, and her grandchildren.
Surviving is her sons Allen Anthony Cassidy and Darryl Franklin Cassidy, both of Vermilion, daughters Shelly Ann Matotek, of Amherst, and Cherryl Kathleen Young of Sylvania, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson, sisters Catherine Kuzniar, Julia Bomback, and Erma Reed, all of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Frank, in 1982, her parents Frank Duray in 1971 and Katherine (nee Lindway) Duray in 1952, her brothers John Jr., in 1972, and Frank in 2003 and sisters Mary Richi in 2001, Ann Roberto in 1975, and Margaret Rich in 1983.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. Rev. Fr., Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
