Anna Sekerak, 93, Women's Gymnastics Instructor
Anna Sekerak (nee Milas), 93, of Lorain, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home in Amherst.
She was born October 15, 1910 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident. She attended Lorain High School.
Mrs. Sekerak worked as a cashier at A&P Grocery Store in Lorain.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain, the Greek Catholic Union #77 and the Ladies Guild of the church. She was active in the church kitchen working wedding receptions, bingo, special dinner functions and bake sales.
Mrs. Sekerak was a drill instructor for women’s Catholic Sokol gymnastics team at St. Nicholas church.
She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and sewing, and she made many braided rag rugs. She enjoyed watching Olympic events on television as well as Lawrence Welk, Bob Hope and Lucille Ball.
She is survived by her daughter Carol A. Sekerak of Lorain, brother John Milas of Lorain, sister Helen Zagorsky of Lorain, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and great great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Alex Sekerak in 1989, parents Michael and Helen Milas (nee Buben), brothers Andrew Milas and Joseph Milas, and sisters Mary Milas and Margaret Milas.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 8, 2003 from 4-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where a Parastas service will be held Monday at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the Divine Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th Street, Lorain. The Rev. Nicholas Ratchford, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
