Richard C. Tufts, 76, Ford retiree, enjoyed the outdoors

Richard Charles Tufts, 76, of Lorain, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at Oak Hills Nursing Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born June 23, 1927 in Erie, Pennsylvania, he has lived in Lorain since 1960. He served in the United States Army.

Richard worked as a quality control inspector for Ford Motor Company, Lorain, retiring in 1980 after 20 years there. Following his retirement he worked for the Morning Journal as a carrier. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the United Auto Workers Union Local 425, and was a founding member of the Society of the 28th Division in Erie, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed watching wrestling, spending time with his family and being outdoors.

Surviving is his son Richard Craig Tufts, of Lorain, a granddaughter, and two great grandsons, and a brother, Arthur Tufts, of Erie, Pennsylvania.

His wife of 53 years, Betty E. (nee Reynolds) Tufts, died in 1998, and his parents Leo H. Tufts, and Ethel (nee Keiberline) Tufts, a brother, Jack Tufts, and a sister, Kay Anderson, also preceded him in death.

Private family services and with burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Erie, Pennsylvania. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, is handling all the arrangements.
