Jeanette S. Betchel, 80, Enjoyed making jewelery and square dancing

Photo of Jeanette S. Betchel Jeanette S. Bechtel (nee Schubert), 80, of Birmingham, died Monday, December 15, 2003 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, after a lengthy illness.

She was born November 11, 1923 in Elyria, Ohio. She was raised in Oberlin, lived in Brownhelm until 1961, when she moved to Birmingham.

Jeanette was a 1942 graduate of Oberlin High School. She worked as a secretary for Oberlin College Treasurer’s Office from 1943-1946 and was an office substitute for the Firelands Schools. She was a member of Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ, Brownhelm Historical Society, and Church Women United. She enjoyed making jewelry, baking, and square dancing.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years: Donald Charles Bechtel; 2 daughters: Rev. Janice Bechtel of Defiance, and Barbara A. Bechtel of Kirtland, OH; a sister: Margaret Peterson of Medina; and 1 granddaughter.

Mrs. Bechtel was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Murphy; a son: Donald Charles, Jr.; 2 sisters: Cornelia Dauge and Lucille Schubert; a granddaughter; and her parents: Frank and Lucy (nee Eckert) Schubert.

Friends may call Wednesday, December 17, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home; 5345 South Street, Vermilion.

A memorial service will be held at the Brownhelm Congregational United Church of Christ on Saturday, December 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Elizabeth Terrill, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Brownhelm Cemetery.
