Joseph Frank Bolognia, 90, World War II Veteran
Joseph Frank Bolognia, age 90, passed away Monday, December 15, 2003 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a short illness.He was born July 12, 1913 in Milan, Italy. He was raised in Leesburg, Pennsylvania and moved to Avon Lake from Cleveland forty-eight years ago.
During World War II, he served in the Army in Africa. Joseph played offense and defense for the Pittsburgh Roonyes, a forerunner of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Bolognia was self-employed as a grocery store owner of the White Front Provision Company in Cleveland, retiring on December 19, 1977 after thirty-three years. He enjoyed golfing, reading, and yardwork.
Mr. Bolognia is survived by two sons: Charles (Beth) of Cashiers, North Carolina, and Frank J. (Ellen) of Avon Lake; five grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Rose Bolognia and Nena Cuffia of Leechburg, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally C. (nee Kalmus), 2 brothers; 2 sisters; and his parents: John and Mary (nee Rassa) Bolognia.
Private graveside services will be held in Leechburg, Pennsylvania.
