Diane F. Widman, 65, RN, enjoyed collecting antiques, reading

Diane F. Widman, age 65, of Lorain, died on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West, following a sudden illness.

Born on February 2, 1938 in Mexico, Ohio, she had lived in Lorain since 1976, coming from North Ridgeville and Upper Sandusky areas.

She was a 1955 graduate of Sycamore High School, Sycamore, Ohio where she was a member of the National Honor Society, and was the class valedictorian.

She had worked at the Daily Chief Union Newspaper, in Upper Sandusky; she had also worked at the Chronicle Telegram, Elyria. She had been employed as a real estate agent for Russell Realty, Lorain and HGM, Lorain, for many years. Diane then went on to Lorain County Community College and received an associate’s degree in applied science in nursing. She then worked for Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain as a Registered Nurse since 1987.

She was a former board member of the Lorain YWCA, and volunteered for Each One Teach One, which was an adult literacy reading program at the Lorain Public Library. She also volunteered at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.

Diane was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain.

She enjoyed painting lighthouses, collecting and refurbishing antiques, needle point, and quilt making. She also enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, archery having won awards, and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her sons David J. Widman, of Lorain, John R. Widman, of Wooster, Ohio, Lee M. Widman and Robert D. Widman, both of Lorain, daughters Rachel M. Furjes of Louisville, Kentucky and Amanda C. Viczulis, of Lorain, 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and her sister Elaine E. Hoover, of Upper Sandusky.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard C. Widman in 1999 and two twin brothers in infancy.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held on Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
