Wayne C. Schafer, Jr., 52, Auto Body Repairman
Wayne C. Schafer, Jr., 52, of Elyria, died Thursday, December 18, 2003 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria after suffering from congestive heart failure.He was born in Lorain and had resided in Elyria for the past 12 years, moving from Lorain.
Wayne attended St. Anthony Elementary School, Longfellow Junior High, and graduated in 1971 from Lorain High School, where he played football and was an honorable mention Buckeye Conference defensive tackle.
Mr. Schafer worked as an auto body repairman and a painter at various body shops in the area.
He was a past member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain. He enjoyed working on cars, stock car racing, and gardening.
He is survived by a son: Wayne Murphy of Ironton; granddaughter: Chastity of Ironton; parents: Wayne C., Sr. & Louise Schafer (nee Hoczko) of Lorain; sisters: Michelle Schafer of San Diego, California, and Annette Deir of Leroy Township; and niece: Emily Deir of Leroy Township.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Mr. James Debrason, deacon of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
