John J. Novak, 95, Retired from US Steel after 43 years

John J. Novak, 98 years of age, of Lorain, died Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain.

Born January 10, 1905 in Lorain, he was a life long resident.

He worked at Lorain Works US Steel as a mill right in No. 4 seamless mill for 43 years, retiring in 1970.

He was a member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, and belonged to the Holy Name Society there. He was also a member of the first Catholic Slovak Union Branch 228 and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104.

Surviving are his sons Robert and Edward, both of Lorain, daughters, Dorothy Sas of North Ridgeville and Florence Truskot, of Lorain, 35 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence (nee Zore) in 1965, sons, John and Joseph in 1995, parents Stephen and Anna (nee Mayher) Novak, brothers Steve and George in 1989 and his sister Julia Baraga.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, East 31st Street and Globe Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father Joseph Yelenc OFM, of the Franciscan College of Steubenville, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
