Donald J. Keyhoe, 79, Avid Avon Lake sports fan and booster

Donald J. Kehoe, 79, of Avon Lake, formerly of Lakewood, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2003 following a brief illness.

Mr. Kehoe was born February 14, 1924 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon Lake for the past 48 years.

Mr. Kehoe worked in the insurance claims field for various companies. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School, Cleveland and went on to graduate from Kings Point, The United States Merchant Marine Academy at Great Neck Long Island. He served in the Merchant Marine, during WWII, on Liberty Ships.

Donald was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake. He was an avid Avon Lake sports fan and booster. He coached CYO athletic teams in both Lakewood and Avon Lake. He was a founding member and past president of the Lorain County Claims Association. He was also a member of United States Merchant Marine Association North East Ohio Alumni Association, American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake, and a member of the Irish Heritage Club, Avon Lake. He enjoyed all sports and athletics.

He is survived by his wife, Marian (nee Lutz), whom he married June 4, 1955; daughter Beth Kehoe-Dobbertin (William) of Houston, TX; son: Terence Kehoe of Washington DC; 2 grandchildren: Tim and Claire; sister: Sister Margaret Kehoe, member of the Maryknoll Order, Monrovia, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Keyhoe is preceded in death by a son: Tim Kehoe (1982); parents: Peter and Kate (nee Malloy) Kehoe; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Friends may call the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel; 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake, Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayer service at the funeral home will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Road, in Avon Lake at 11 a.m. Fr. Timothy J. O’Conner of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Garden, Avon.
