Albert J. Lasky, 76, U.S. Steel Retiree, enjoyed bowling
Albert J. Lasky, age 76, of Lorain, died Friday, December 26, 2003 in the Intensive Care Unit of EMH Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born December 28, 1926 in Oberlin, Ohio and had been a resident of Lorain most of his life.A parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, he was employed in the shipping department of U.S. Steel’s Lorain Works, he retired in 1986 following forty-two years of service.
A graduate of Lorain High School with the Class of 1946-A, Mr. Lasky participated in the Lorain Summer Softball Program as a youth. In his later years he enjoyed league bowling. He was also a social member of V.F.W. Post #8686 in Sheffield Lake.
He is survived by his stepdaughters: Mrs. Ted (Carol) Siwierka of Sugarland, Texas, Mrs. Tim (Sandy) Sadowski of Lorain and Mrs. Bob (Judy) Greuter of Amherst, twelve step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, brother Robert P. Lasky of Sheffield Lake, sisters Helen Truskolaski of North Ridgeville, Mary Jane Goodwin, Shirley James and Geraldine Lasky all of Elyria, Mildred Halasz of Shelton, Washington, and Kathryn Kenzik of Lorain, 19 nieces and nephews and 18 grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Stella (nee Gawlik) Lasky in 1968, by his second wife Helen (nee Jasinski) Skodney-Laskey in 1995, by his parents John and Susan (nee Sim) Lasky, and a brother John R. Lasky, and by his companion Jacqueline J. Poprock (nee Maringer) in June of 2003.
Visitation will be Monday from 408 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the Parish will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
