Watson J. Fate, 78, World War II Veteran

Watson J. Fate, age 78, of Elyria, died on Sunday, December 28, 2003 at Oak Hills Nursing Home, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born June 18, 1925 in Galion, Ohio, he has also lived in Marietta, before moving to Lorain 60 years ago.

Mr. Fate served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was employed as an administrator for the Moose Lodge, Lorain, retiring in 2000. Prior to this, he was a business agent for Local #240, Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trade Union. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lake Erie Lodge #552, Amvets Post #47, American Legion Post #30, and VFW Post #451, all in Lorain. He also enjoyed golfing.

Watson is survived by a son: Jay M. Fate of Atlanta, GA; daughter: Joyce Lee Fate, of Lorain; 2 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother: Earl Fate of Lorain; and sister: Cheryl Heinebrodt of North Ridgeville.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Jay Watson Fate and Pearl Levon (nee Jackson) Fate; and sister: Martha Bogdon.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 from 3-5 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home; 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Services will be conducted by the American Legion/VFW at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be private in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
