Anna M. Marks, 89, Enjoyed sewing, baking, and crocheting

Anna M. Marks (nee Matesic), age 89, of Lakewood, and former Lorain County resident, died on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the Aristocrat Nursing Center in Lakewood following an extended illness.

She was born January 15, 1914 in Lorain and had been a resident of Lakewood for the past six years, moving from Elyria.

Mrs. Marks was a former parishioner of both St. Jude Catholic Church (Elyria) and St. Vitus Croatian Church (Lorain). She was employed for a number of years as a sales clerk for the Carter Lumber Company’s Sheffield Village store. She retired from that position in 1973. Her hobbies included sewing, baking, and crocheting.

She is survived by her sons: Robert Marks of Lorain, and Norman Marks of Houston, Texas; daughter: Barbara Reali of Lakewood; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Pauline Olexen and Katherine Stohla, both of Lorain, Barbara Matesic of Cleveland, Dorothy Rich of Amherst; and Frances Phiel of Naples, Florida.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband: George in 1989; by a son: Thomas in 1940; by a daughter: Judith “Jay” Stringer in 1999; brother: Rudolph Matesic; and sisters: Mary Profant and Elizabeth Matesic.

Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Edward Luca, Pastor Emeritus of St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
