Velma D. Chula, 83, Nurses' aid at St. Joseph Hospital for 18 years

Velma D. Chula, (nee Deidrick), age 83, of Lorain, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born March 3, 1920, in Lorain, she was a life long resident of Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School in 1938.

She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain.

Velma worked as a nurses’ aid in the maternity ward of St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain for 18 years, retiring in 1988.

She enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting.

Surviving is her son, Jeffrey Chula of Lorain, daughters Cheryl Evans and Gail Chula, both of Lorain, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a sister, Geraldine Johnson of Wellington. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Frank J. on January 7, 2003, her daughter, Mona Chula-Cain, in 1991, her sisters Eleanor Sandys, and Winifred Toth.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funereal home followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, W 15th and Lexington Ave., in Lorain. Rev. Fr. Robert Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
