Carl F. Stitak, 86, WWII Veteran, loved photography

Carl Frank Stitak, 86, of Lorain, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 25, 1917 in Lorain and was employed by Western Automatic/Stanadyne in Elyria as a machine operator for 44 years, retiring in 1980. He also served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. He also served in the CCC for two years in Colorado and Oregon.

Carl was a very generous person who enjoyed photography, golf and gardening. He was known for taking thousands of pictures, developing them himself and giving them away.

He was a member of VFW Post 1079 and DAV Chapter 20. He was also an Honorary Member of Lorain Sports Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Olga; daughter, Kathleen Wolak and son, Robert Stitak; eight Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Carl R. Stitak; parents Andrew and Anna (nee Martincak) Stitak; brothers Andrew, Emil, John, Anthony, Thomas, and Frank; and sisters Mary Mate and Anna Radman.

A private service was held Saturday at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Rd., Elyria. The Rev. Kenneth J. Wolnowski of St. Peters Catholic Church in Lorain was the celebrant. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
