Matilde Ortiz Garcia, 71, Lorain resident since 1950
Matilde Ortiz Garcia, age 71, of Lorain, died on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain, following a brief illness.Born on March 15, 1932 in Guayama, Puerto Rico, moving to Lorain in 1950.
She was a member of the Church of God, House of Refuge, of Lorain.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years: Miguel Garcia, 4 sons: Miguel A. Garcia, Freddie Garcia, Harry Garcia and Thomas Garcia, all of Lorain, 3 daughters: Eileen Garcia Brooks, Frances Garcia, and Lori Sanchez, all of Lorain. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters: Tomasita Torres, Carmen Rivera, both of Puerto Rico, Teresa Solis, of New Haven, Connecticut, and Emma Garcia, of Puerto Rico, 2 brothers: Jesus Ortiz and Benito O. Rivera, both of Lorain and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas Ortiz and Santos Morales, 2 sons: Abraham and Abel.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 10, 2003 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave, Lorain, and also on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, Rev. Efrain Senquiz, pastor of Church of God, House of Refuge. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
