Dr. Howard A. Keiser MD, 87, Enjoyed sports, golf, and bowling
Dr. Howard A. Keiser MD, age 87, of Lorain died on Sunday, January 11, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph in Lorain following a brief illness.
Dr. Keiser was born June 30, 1916 in Ludington, MI.
He was a US Army veteran, serving in the Medical Corp from 1943-1946. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and served his residency at the Detroit Receiving Hospital. Dr. Keiser moved to Lorain in 1949 and opened his medical practice. He was the first urologist in Lorain. He continued to practice until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the American, Ohio, and Lorain County Medical Societies, the American Neurological Society, Elks Lodge, Lorain Yacht Club, and the Senior Fellowship. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Lorain. He was an accomplished painter, enjoyed all sports, an avid golfer, and especially enjoyed bowling on the Senior Fellowship Bowling League. Dr. Keiser was also a backyard conservationist that was challenged to stop the erosion of the lakefront of his home, building a pier and breakwater.
He is survived by his daughter: Marilyn J. Keiser; 3 sons: James H. Keiser, Robert A. Keiser, and Dr. Paul W. Keiser DO, all of Lorain; 3 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and his brother: Dr. Ted A. Keiser of Hiawassee, GA.
Dr. Keiser is preceded in death by his wife, Pearl L. (nee Warren) Keiser in 1998; son Brian D. Keiser in 2002; his parents: Addison A. and Hattie C. (nee Rickef); brother: Vernon R. Keiser; and half-brother: Don Keiser.
The family will receive friends at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funeral in Lorain, on Thursday, January 15, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A private family burial will take place on a later date.
