Mary S. Stitak, 91, Homemaker and Mother

Photo of Mary S. Stitak Mary S. Stitak, age 91, of Lorain, died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Community Health Partners and Surgical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.

She was born August 15, 1912 in Lorain and has been a lifelong area resident. Until her death, she had been a resident of the Oak Hill Nursing Home in Lorain.

A homemaker and mother, she also worked as a custodian for the Lorain School System for 21 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the School Employees Retirement Organization, AARP, and the Senior Citizens of Lorain. She enjoyed crafting, especially ceramics.

Mary was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, and a former member of Holy Trinity and St. John the Baptist Catholic Churches in Lorain.

Survivors include her son: Leonard Stitak of Lorain; 3 grandchildren; and sisters: Irene Ferner of Elyria, and Teresa Lieb of Lorain.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Stitak; sons: Gerald and John; parents: Andrew and Josephine (nee Szczepankiewicz) Zagorsky; brothers: Joseph, Frank, Edward, Alex, Floyd, and Stanley; and sisters: Helen Hendry and Virginia Limes.

Friends may call Wednesday, January 14 from 2-9 p.m. in the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home; 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church; 2702 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The Reverend Kevin C. Shemuga, pastor, will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
