Jimmy Waters, 79, Retired from Cleveland Quarries , enjoyed ATVs

Jimmy Waters, 79 years of age, and a resident of Wakeman, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2004 following a one-month illness.

He was born August 25, 1924 in McCreary County, Kentucky where he was raised. He came to the Lorain County area in 1951 and has been a resident of Wakeman for over twenty years.

He was employed by the Cleveland Quarries in South Amherst for 33 years retiring in 1978 as a sawier. He was a member of Old Fashion Grace Baptist Church in South Amherst and attended Fireland’s Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding ATVs.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Ella Delta Waters (nee Maxwell), his sons Ernest Waters of Vermilion and Kenneth Waters of South Amherst, his daughters Norma Jean Bennett of Conesville, Ohio and Wanda Jonda of Greenwood, South Carolina, fourteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brother Speedy Waters of Amherst, and his sisters Bonnie Morris of Peaster, Texas and Easter Lilly Keene of Planfield, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his son Clarence Waters in 1950 as an infant, his daughter Barbara Waters in 1954 also as an infant, by his parents Nim and Cora Waters (nee Dunagan), by his brothers Ray, James, Lloyd, Boyd, and a brother in infancy, and by his sisters Etna Waters, Etta Hill, Effie Jones, Elva Waters, and Joyce Waters.

Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Leon Simpson, pastor of Fireland’s Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Birmingham Cemetery, Birmingham.

The family suggests memorials in his name be made to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
