Herbert E. Marquard, 85, WWII Veteran, Artist, and avid fisherman

Herbert E. Marquard, 85, of Avon Lake, formerly of Cleveland, passed away, Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, following a short illness.

Mr. Marquard was born, October 13, 1918 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon Lake for over 50 years.

Mr. Marquard retired as Commercial Art Director for American Can Company, Cleveland. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, serving with the Seabees in the Philippines. He was a graduate of Cleveland School of Art and a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ. He was an artist, painter, and a sculptor and was an avid fisherman, fishing all over the world.

Mr. Marquard is survived by two daughters, Judith Hassell (Louis) of Powell, Ohio and Alayne Plas (John) of Springfield, Vermont. Other survivors include four grandchildren: Allyson Hassell, Samantha Hassell, Seth Plas, and Patrick Plas, a great grandson Austin Hassell, a sister Mildred Lindhorst of North Ridgeville and a brother Walter Marquard of Parma. He is preceded in death by his wife Rita (nee Cline), a brother Robert Marquard and his parents Herbert and Mildred (nee Bose) Marquard.

Private graveside services in Resthaven Memory Gardens will be announced. Rev. Kelly Peters of Avon Lake United Church of Christ will officiate. Arrangements by the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, Avon Lake.
