George A. Repas, 65, Former aerospace engineer for NASA

George A. Repas, age 65, of Lorain, died Monday, January 19, 2004 in the intensive care unit of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a brief illness.

He was born March 16, 1938 in Lorain and had been an area resident for most of his life. George graduated from Clearview High School in 1956 and went on to receive his bachelor’s of Science degree in both Engineering and Math from Ohio Northern University.

He was employed as an aerospace engineer and consultant for the NASA-Glenn Research Center in Cleveland for more than thirty-five years; he retired in 1995. George was proud to have served as the organizer and chairman of the NASA Christmas Show for more than thirty years. He was widely recognized for his expertise and contributions in the field of design, fabrication, and installation of complex chemical propulsion test hardware, and provided significant engineering assistance to the Department of Defense and numerous other organizations with the aerospace community. In recognition of his contributions, he was enshrined on the National Wall of Honor at Dulles International Airport. Following his retirement from the aerospace industry, George obtained his Ohio Real Estate Agent and Brokers certifications.

Mr. Repas was a talented signer who performed with the Lewistown Signers in the 1960’s. Carrying on his vocal expertise, he has served as a member and cantor at Saint Mary Magdalene Byzantine Catholic Church in Fairview Park for the past nineteen years. He formerly attended Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church in Lorain.

An avid outdoorsman, he took many fishing trips into Canada and also enjoyed hunting. An ardent fan of both the Cleveland Indians and Browns, additional interest included flying, travel, and golf.

He is survived by his son: Jim Repas of Medina, daughters; Linda M. Turner of Cleveland, Carole Koo of San Ramon, California, and Judy Dziak of Amherst, eleven grandchildren, and long-time friend Tina Crawford of Cleveland, brother; Bob Repas of Elyria, and sister; Mary Ann Seskar of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Mary (nee Fabina) Repas.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway – Lorain where a Parastas service will be offered at 5:00 p.m. A rosary by officers and members of the Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church will follow at 5:30 p.m. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Mary Magdalene Byzantine Catholic Church – 5390 West 220th Street – Fairview Park. The Rev. John Kovach, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
