Domingo Colon, 79, Fan of Cleveland Indians and Browns

Domingo Colon, age 79, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph Residential Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born on August 15, 1924 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, moving to this area in 1948.

He was employed at US Steel for over 38 years, retiring in 1986 as a steel pourer. Domingo was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. He loved to watch sports, especially the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. He also enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his son Nelson Colon of Sheffield Township, daughters Nilda Colon of Avon and Nellie Colon of Euclid, five grandchildren, one great grandson and brothers Luis Colon and Emerito both of New York and Ismael Colon of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Maria Colon, May 26, 2003, parents Martin Colon in 1969 and Modesta Hernandez in 1964 and sister Ana Maldonado in 1984.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 23, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain.

The family suggests a gift be made to New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 5255 North Abbe Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035 to help support hospice and bereavement programs; or to Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Dovin Funereal Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
