Bernard C. Crabtree, 87, US Army Veteran serving in WWII

Bernard C. Crabtree, 87 of Lorain died on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Center Ridge Nursing Home in North Ridgeville, OH following a long illness.

Mr. Crabtree was born on December 18, 1915 in Rush Township in Scioto County moving to the Lorain area in the mid 1950's. Mr. Crabtree graduated from Rio Grande University with a bachelor's of Arts degree and received a Master of Arts Degree in Education from Ohio State University.

He was a US Army veteran serving during WWII and was a member of the "Wolfpack."

He retired in 1977 after 28 years teaching English at Lorain High School. He was active in all theater and opera productions at Lorain High School, assisted with both football and basketball programs, assisted with the debate team. He was also a member of the Ohio Education Association and the National Education Association.

Mr. Crabtree was a former Chairman and member of the Board of Directors for the Lorain Blood Bank. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He enjoyed reading.

He is survived by his three daughters, Anita Crabtree of Lorain, Laura Jenkins of Avon Lake, and Karen Sas of Huntington Township, his son, Clark E. Crabtree of Elyria, 7 grandchildren, brothers Carl Crabtree, Homer Crabtree, sisters Freda Crabtree, Winona Craycraft, Linda Deemer, Ruth Stamper, Phoebe Wagner all of southern Ohio, and Dorothy Robinson of Independence, MO.

Mr. Crabtree is preceded in death by his wife Margaret (nee Porosky) Crabtree in 1997, his parents Theodore and Nellie M. (nee Throckmorton) Crabtree, brothers Cecil Crabtree, James Crabtree, Raymond Crabtree and his sister Helen Pertuset.

Friends may call at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, on Sunday, January 25, 2004 from 4 - 8 pm.

Funeral services will be held on January 26, 2004 at 11:00 am at Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals in Lorain, OH. Bernard C. Crabtree will be buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Twp., OH with full military honors by VFW Post 451 of Lorain.
