Benny J. Kuzniar, 79, U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WW II
Benny J. Kuzniar, age 79, of Lorain, died Monday, February 2, 2004 in the intensive care unit of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following a brief illness.He was born April 13, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Kuzniar was a World War II Navy Veteran serving as a Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class in the Pacific Theater.
Benny was employed as a millwright for the Moen Corporation of Elyria (Successor Company to Western Automatic and Stanadyne Corporations) for 44 years. During his career there, he played softball on the company team, served as a union shop steward, as well as a member of the company’s fire brigade. He retired in 1986. He was formerly employed by the Lorain Creamery and the American Stove Works, both in Lorain.
Mr. Kuzniar was a parishioner of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, where he served as an usher and was also a member of the church’s Holy Name Society. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Benny is survived by his wife of 42 years: Therese (nee Michael); sons: Robert Kuznar of Seven Hills, Ohio, Thomas Kuzniar of Avon Lake, and James Kuznar of Columbus; daughters: Patricia Kuznar of Lorain, and Kathy Szabo of Columbia Station; six grandchildren; and sisters: Judy Trebonik, Lottie Nibert, Jane Podboy, and Tina Lepkowski, all of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Valeria (nee Jachym) Kuzniar; sisters: Mary Smigel and Stella Tusko; and by brothers: Michael, August, John, and Joseph Kuzniar.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; 3224 Broadway, in Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church; 2702 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Kevin Shemuga, pastor of the parish, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in his name to the Saint Stanislaus Restoration Fund, 2702 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, OH 44055.
