Helen M. Salata, 86, Enjoyed gardening, bingo, and puzzles
Helen M. Salata (nee Benkovsky), 86, of Lorain, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at her home after a short illness.She was born February 28, 1917 in Greenville, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain most of her life. She was a graduate of Lorain High School.
Prior to having her family, she worked at Bendix-Westinghouse in Elyria as an inventory clerk. She also worked as a precinct committee person for the Lorain Board of Elections.
Mrs. Salata was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, the church Altar and Rosary Society and Slovak Catholic Sokols.
She enjoyed gardening, bingo, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Kathleen Salkiewicz of Solon and Kathryn Machado of Elyria Township, grandchildren Catherine Scheller of Columbus, Diane Salkiewicz of New York City and Doreen Salkiewicz of Solon and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Salata in 1974, father Cyril Benkovsky, mother Catherine (nee Trubac), stepfather Carl Gencur and sister Agnes Benkovsky in infancy.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 6, 2004 from 5-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Holty Trinity Altar and Rosary Society will pray the Rosary Friday at 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
