Margaret O. Shurr, 92, Enjoyed singing, traveling, and her family

Margaret O. “Margie” Shurr (nee Jackson), 92, of Avon Lake, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon after a brief illness.

She was born November 14, 1911 in Cleveland, Ohio and had resided in Avon Lake since 1980, moving from Birmingham.

Mrs. Shurr worked as a hostess at Roman Villa in Lorain, Italian American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain and McGarvey’s Restaurant in Vermilion. She also worked as a housekeeper at several homes in the Vermilion Lagoons.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Avon Lake, AARP and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary in Birmingham.

Mrs. Shurr was a member of the Towerettes singing group which performed at supper clubs in Buffalo, New York and the Saddle Inn in Avon Lake and at various nursing homes in the area.

She enjoyed traveling, singing, and family activities.

She is survived by her daughters Jeanne Dowling of Angola, New York, Peggy Russo of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Sharon Koba-Carek of Avon Lake, sons Michael R. Muschitz of LaGrange and Tom Shurr of Oberlin and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Gracie Scimia in 2002, parents George Jackson and Marian Jackson (nee Mills) and brother Edward Jackson.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 8, 2004 from 204 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funereal Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. James Deitz, associate pastor of the United Church of Christ in Avon Lake, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
