Louis P. "Merge" Rangus, 89, United States Army Veteran of WWII

Louis P. “Merge” Rangus, age 89, of Lorain, died on Friday, February 6, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center – West, from natural causes.

Born June 29, 1915 in Cleveland and has lived here most of his life.

He served in the United States Army during WWII. He earned the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Ribbon.

Louis was employed as a lab technician at US Steel for many years.

He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain. He was a member of the former Stefan Czarnecki Softball Club Team in 1936 in South Lorain and the former Blue Bells Softball Team. He was an avid stamp collector especially the 1st edition, enjoying gardening and a good fan of the Cleveland Indians.

He was survived by his brother: Edward Rangus, of Lorain, sister: Frances Selemon, of Avon Lake, numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years: Rose (nee Furdyn) in 1982, parents: Frank and Fannie (nee Kimmel) and 4 brothers: Albert, Frank, Tony, and Joseph Rangus.

Private services were held by the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Burial was held at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
