Thelma C. Greenert, 93, Teacher, played Bridge, enjoyed knitting
Thelma C. Greenert, 93 (nee Kihn) of Lorain died on Thursday, February 19,
2004, at New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph in Lorain, OH following a brief illness.
Mrs. Greenert was born on April 20, 1910, in Butler, PA and has lived in Lorain for the past 54 years. She was a graduate of Butler High School.
She also graduated from the Slippery Rock State Teacher's College in 1929. She then began her teaching career in Renfro, PA. She moved to Lorain and began teaching as a substitute teacher in the Lorain City Schools. Mrs. Greenert continued her education at Kent State University obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in 1965. She then began teaching full time in the North Ridgeville City Schools and retired in 1975.
She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, the Marian Guild, Paduan Travelers Social Group and Senior Sociables at the Church. She was also a member of the Eastside A. A. R. P., Lorain County Seniors, and Lorain Educators Association-Retired Teachers Association. She also was a serious Bridge player belonging to several bridge clubs. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and knitting. While in Pennsylvania, she knitted the first uniforms for the Catholic Daughters of America Drum & Bugle Corp. She was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Butler, PA.
Mrs. Greenert is survived by her daughter, Barbara Sommers of Lorain and 5 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Regis A. Greenert in 1956, her parents Matthias and Barbara (nee Geibel) Kihn, brothers Alfred Kihn, Lawrence Kihn, sisters Loretta Kihn, Mary Kihn, and Viola Kihn Schneider.
Friends may call at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio, 44052 on Sunday, February 22, 2004, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Rosary services will be provided the Marian Guild of St. Anthony's at 3:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held on February 23, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave. Lorain, Ohio in Lorain, OH. Rev. Charles Henkle, associate pastor of St. Anthony's, will officiate.
Burial services will be Tuesday, February 24th, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Peter's Cemetery in Butler, PA with Rev. Jack Nanz, pastor of St. Peter's Catholic Church officiating.
