Carmella A. Vergari, 91, Homemaker, enjoyed cooking and baking

Photo of Carmella A. Vergari Carmella A. Vergari (nee Perno), age 91, of Lorain, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain.

She was born July 24, 1012 in Kushequa, Pennsylvania and had lived in Lorain for over 60 years.

A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends, many of whom especially remember her pizzelles. She also enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter and its Sacred Heart Society and had also volunteered to clean the church for many years.

Carmella is survived by her grandchildren: Michelle Dillon of S. Amherst, and Anthony Vergari of Columbus; great-grandchildren: Gail and Roger Dillon; daughter-in-law: Rosemary Vergari of Lorain; sisters: Rose Ascenzi of Elkland, Pennsylvania, Marion Defabio of Warren, Pennsylvania, and Lucy Henderson of Bradford, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Geremia Vergari in 1984; a son: Luigi Vergari in 1989; and her parents: Ralph and Antonetto (nee Stelluto) Perno.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dombroski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio.

Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2004 followed by a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
