Harriet F. "Hattie" Kerchinske, 95, Enjoyed flower gardening

Harriet F. “Hattie” Kerchinske, age 95, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Ohio Extended Care Center in Lorain.

She was born August 10, 1908 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mrs. Kerchinske worked as a nurse’s aid on the night shift at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain for many years. She had previously worked for Richman Brothers Clothiers.

She was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, the Altar & Rosary Society, Holy Name Society, St. Ann’s Lodge and the Women’s Guild, all of the church. She enjoyed flower gardening.

She is survived by her son: Jack A. of Lorain; six grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister: Frances Popiel of Lorain; brother: Edward Turton of Lorain; and many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death was her husband: John Kerchinske in 1972; daughter: Elaine Marko in 1987; parents: Jacob “James” Turton and Stella (nee Nowakowski); sisters: Sophie Schultz and Florence Klingshirn; and brothers: Joseph, Casimer, and Andrew Turton.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kevin Shemuga, pastor, and the Rev. William Schill, deacon, will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
