Dorothy Novak, 83, Enjoyed bingo and playing cards
Dorothy Novak (nee Hritsko), age 83, of Lorain, died Thursday March 11, 2004 in the emergency room of Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West following a year-long illness.Mrs. Novak was born September 17, 1920 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of the city; she attended Lorain High School.
Dorothy was an active parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the Holy Trinity Seniors' Group, and also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
She was a. member of Saint Ann's Lodge Branch # 114 of the First Slovak Catholic Ladies Union as well as Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath # 111; for many years she served as a server and kitchen aid at the weekly fish fries hosted by the American Stovak Club.
Additionally, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Saint John, and a member of S.O.A.R Her hobbies included playing cards and bingo.
Mrs. Novak is survived by her sons: James M. of Amherst, and Joseph A of Sierra Vista, Arizona; a daughter: Joan Cobb of Oberlin; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a sister: Frances Guerrero of Alharnbra, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph in 1994; by her father: Michael Hritsko in 1956; by her mother: Vera M. (nec Swartz) Hritsko; and by a sister: Agnes Steckman.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain where a rosary will be recited by members and officers of the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society, Saint Ann's Lodge, and the Slovak Catholic Sokols at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m., in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church - 2428 Elyria Avenue - Lorain. The Reverend David Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
