Mabel G. Rigo, 85, Red Cross Volunteer

Mabel G. Rigo, (nee Coonrod), age 85, of Amherst, died on Thursday, May 7, 2004 at Amherst Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born on December 25, 1918 in Sandusky, Ohio, she lived in this area most of her life. She was a 1936 graduate of Lorain High School.

She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, St. Joseph Hospital and a past-president of the Lorain Senior Center. Mabel enjoyed reading, traveling and going to the library.

She is survived by her two sons: Gazie Rigo, of Amherst, and David Rigo of Lorain, three daughters: Carol Bass, of Tallahassee, FL, Mary Poplestein, of Avon Lake, and Pat Homolya of Amherst, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and sister: Esther Uleski, of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Gazie in 1987, son: Larry Gries and parents: Raymond and Elsie (nee Hansen) Coonrod.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 10, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
