Rev. Albert Spieth, 85, Established 22 churches on the Amazon River
Rev. Albert Charles Spieth, age 85, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, May 7, 2004 in his home after a long illness.He was born Saturday March 8, 1919 in Lorain County and made his home in LaGrange since retiring in 1989. A member of the 1st Baptist Church of LaGrange, Mr. Spieth is a graduate of Philadelphia School of the Bible, and was ordained by the 1st Baptist Church of LaGrange. He spent 5 years in Kentucky before moving to Brazil in 1947 where he and his wife Naomi served as missionaries for 43 years. He helped establish 22 churches along the Amazon River and its Tributaries.
He is survived by three daughters: Esther Green of California, Joy Spieth of Brazil, and Carol Collins of LaGrange, five grandchildren and eight great grand Children, a sister Edith Webber of Warren, Ohio, and brother Rev. Walter Spieth of LaGrange, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife Naomi in 1997.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bill Smallman 1st Vice President of Baptist Mid-Missions officiating. Burial will be in Nesbett Cemetery. Family suggest memorials be made to the Albert Spieth Memorial Fund at Baptist Mid-Missions 7749 Webster Rd. Cleveland, Ohio 44130-8011.
Services will be held at the Riddle Funeral Home, Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Guy Morton, pastor of Lakeview Baptist Church, will officiate.
