John P. Bober, 74, US Army Veteran, enjoyed sports

John P. Bober, 74, of Lorain, died Sunday, May 9, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born August 20, 1929 in Wampum, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain since 1978.

Mr. Bober served with the US Army from 1948-1952. He was stationed in Germany for 38 months with Tank Company 3rd Battalion 14th A/C Division.

He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a crane operator for 27 years retiring in 1980.

He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Sheffield Village and United Steelworkers Local #1104. He enjoyed walking, watching sports, reading and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Joan (nee Makowski), sons John Bober of Lorain, and Tom Bober of Sheffield Lake, daughters Pattie Clark of Deland, Florida, Cindy Bober of Walton Hills, Ohio, Terri Butler of Cleveland and Brenda Crnko of Sheffield Village, 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sister Marge Miloser of Wampum, Pennsylvania and brothers Andy Bober of New Castle, Pennsylvania and Frank Bober and Bob Bober, both of Elwood City, Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary (nee Olzak) Bober, sisters Ann Kuczynski and Helen Kalifut and brothers Joseph Bober, Albert Bober, Paul Bober and two brothers in infancy John and Anthony Bober.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 11, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village. The Rev. Robert J. Franko, pastor will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
