Frank J. Horvath, 94, Enjoyed traveling and the Cleveland Browns

Frank J. Horvath, age 94, of Lorain, died Monday, May 10, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

Mr. Horvath was born September 29, 1909 in Lorain and had been a lifelong area resident.

Frank worked at US Steel in Lorain as an electrician for 25 years and then became the Staff Representative of District 28 of the Steelworkers Union for 20 years. He retired in 1974. He was active in union affairs and on political action committees and was a past president of S.O.A.R. and the Golden Age Pensioners.

He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #537 and the American Slovak Club, both of Lorain.

Mr. Horvath enjoyed swimming and swam frequently at the Lorain Family YMCA where he could swim two miles of laps. He enjoyed traveling and was a Cleveland Browns season ticket holder from 1952 until the mid 1980’s.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Clara (nee Mantini); sons: Judge Frank J. Horvath of Avon and Jim Horvath of St. Louis, Missouri; three grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his parents: Anton and Elizabeth Horvath (nee Palien); brothers: Michael, Louis, and Steve; and sister: Margaret Hanick.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter; 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
