Evan J. Kolar, 90, Enjoyed gardening and fishing
Evan J. Kolar, age 90, of Avon Lake and formerly of Livonia, Michigan, passed away Friday, May 14, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, Lorain following a short illness.He was born August 2, 1913 in Farmington, West Virginia and moved to Avon Lake 29 years ago following his retirement. He was employed as a wireman for a coal mine in West Virginia from 1930-1955 and then in the motor repair shop at General Motors, Detroit, Michigan until his retirement in 1975. During World War II he served his country in the Army in Europe. Evan was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake, and the American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his daughter, JoAnn Runewicz (John) of Avon Lake, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, two brothers Henry Kolar of West Virginia and George Kolar of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife Victoria (nee Pitkavish) in 1983, parents Matt and Anne (nee Urbanick) Kolar and four brothers, Matt Kolar, Jr., Frank Kolar, Bill Kolar and Nick Kolar.
Friends may call at Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2004. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake, Monday, May 17, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. James R. Becherer will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain where VFW Post 451 and American Legion Post 30 of Lorain will perform military honors.
