John F. Mitchell, 88, Avid fan of Lorain city school sports
John Frank Mitch Mitchell, 88, of Lorain, died Monday, May 17, 2004 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a long illness.He was born July 14, 1915 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain since 1943.
Before moving to Ohio he worked in the Pennsylvania coal mines. Mr. Mitchell worked at US Steel in Lorain as an electrician for 32 years retiring in 1980. He also owned Mitchell Electric in Lorain.
He played for and managed the 4 Seamless softball team in the US Steel slow pitch softball league in Lorain.
Mr. Mitchell enjoyed fishing, swimming, and was an avid fan of his grandchildren’s Lorain city school sports teams.
He is survived by his daughter Eileen Mitchell of Lorain, granddaughters Loretta Rositano and Deanie Shukait of Lorain, grandsons John Born of Lorain, Douglas Born of Sheffield Lake and Quinet Mitch Mitchell of Lorain, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine M. Mitchell (nee Kinney) in 2003, infant son John F. Mitchell, parents Edwin & Ethel Mitchell (nee Fulton) and brothers Edwin Mitchell and Ralph Grattan.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 19, 2004 from 5-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Graveside services and burial will be held on Thursday at the Washington Cemetery in Washington, Pennsylvania.
