William I. Higgins, 88, WWII Navy Veteran

Photo of William I. Higgins William I. Higgins, 88 of Avon Lake died on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in Avon Lake, OH following a long illness.

Mr. Higgins was born on June 27, 1915, in Elyria, OH and has been an area resident all his life.

William was a 1933 graduate of Lorain High School. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WW II receiving the American Victory Medal. He was a member of the Black River Masonic Lodge # 786 and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland.

He was a retired operating engineer working from the Ohio Operating Engineer's Union with 46 years service. He retired in 1979.

Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife of 55 years: Vivian E. (nee Posey) Higgins; two sisters: Marjorie Davis and Mary Lou Todd both of California; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his daughter: Kathleen; and his parents: Irving L. and Ernestine (nee Kuss) Higgins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 24, 2004, at 10:30 am in
the Schwartz Spence Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street,
Lorain, OH, with Rev. James H. DiFilippo, his nephew, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Burn Hospital, 1645 W. 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505 or a charity of choice.
