Thomas A. Krezman, 83, WW II veteran, founded T.A. Krezman Co.

Thomas A. Krezman, 83, of Lorain, died Wednesday May 19, 2004 at Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland suddenly after a long illness.

He was born August 17, 1920 in Lorain and had resided in Lorain most of his life. From 1986 to 1988 he had lived in Austin, Texas. Mr. Krezman served with the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Buckley. His ship rammed a German submarine and resulted in the only naval hand-to-hand combat during tile war. His ship sustained heavy damage but was able to limp back to port with many German prisoners.

Mr. Krezman was a graduate of Fenn College in Cleveland and the Cleveland Engineering Institute.

Me began working in construction with Schaeffer Construction in Lorain and then founded his own company, T.A. Krezman Co. where he was a builder and contractor and constructed many buildings in the city of Lorain. Later he worked for the B.L. Scott Co. and Gilbane Building Company. He was retained by the Lorain County Commissioners to assist in the construction of the Lorain. County Correctional Facilities and was instrumental in assisting with the construction of the Mario Ross Recreation Center at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

Mr. Krezman was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where he served on church council, the church maintenance committee and as an usher. He was a member and past president of the St. Anthony PTU, a member of the Secular Franciscan Order; the Knights of Columbus in Lorain and Lorain Senior Fellowship. He was a member and past president of the Lorain Lions Club where he held several offices and helped to establish the free glaucoma-screening program. He was a past member of the Lorain Catholic High School executive board.

He enjoyed playing baseball as a. youth, was an avid. Cleveland Indians baseball. fan, and enjoyed bowling and golf

He is survived by his wife of 56 years f)Dorothy Krezman (nee Tackas), son Brian Krezman and his wife Susan of Elyria, daughter Kristina Krezman-Heydorn and her husband Harry of Lewis Center, Ohio; grandchildren: Alyssa Heydorn, Alex Heydorn; Evan Heydorn, Timothy Krezman and Elizabeth Krezman and niece Ethel Ferraro (nee Betzel) and her husband Carl of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Elizabeth (nee Gruenfelder) Krezman, sister Rose Betzel and brothers Joseph Krezman, Frank Krezman and John Krezman.

The family will receive friends Sunday 2-4; 7-9 PM at the GIuvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
