Ann Olexen, 89, Enjoyed, baking bread and making perogies
Ann Olexen (nee Semyczyk), 89, of Lorain, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at her daughters home in Lorain following a lengthy illness.She was born April 5, 1915 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She came to Lorain in 1928.
Mrs. Olexen worked 12 years for Wolfe's Green House in Avon as a helper, trimmer and tomato packing.
Mrs. Olexen was a member of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Lorain. She was also a member of the churches Sisterhood. She enjoyed sewing, baking bread, and making perogies. With her husband, she traveled to every state in the Continental United States by automobile.
Among the survivors is a son Ray of Brandon, Florida: daughters Judith Ann Vaniel of North Versailles, PA and Darlene Daugherty of Lorain Thirteen Grandchildren, twenty-six Great Grandchildren and One Great Great Grandson; and a sister Sophia Sargent of Vernal, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Alex Olexen in 2000, her parents Sam and Mary (nee Chomrick) Semyczyk, brothers Mike and Charles Suhan and Mary Lesseski.
Friends may call Tuesday 4:00 to 9:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio, where a Parastas service will be 5:00 PM Tuesday afternoon. Funeral service will be Wednesday 10:00 AM in the funeral home. Reverend Dennis Kristof, Dean of Saint Nicolas Ukrainian Orthodox Pro-Cathedral in Lakewood will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
