Charles A. Schroeder, 82, WWII Veteran, enjoyed gardening

Mr. Schroeder was born in Elyria on November 26, 1921 and had been a life-long resident. He attended Elyria High School and went to fulfill duty with the United Stats Navy during World War II; he served as Seaman First Class and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal as well as the American Area Campaign Ribbon.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain where he formerly served as an advisor to the church’s Youth Group.

Mr. Schroeder was employed as a foreman with the Lear-Romec Corporation (successor company to both Lear-Siegler Corporation as well as Lear Pump Corporation) in Elyria for more than thirty years, Bud retired from that position in 1970.

A member of the Amherst Golden Agers Club, his hobbies included stamp collecting, maintaining his hard and the company of his grandchildren. Additional interests included gardening with a special focus on raising and cultivating strawberries.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Alyce (nee Tappper) daughters Karen Parker of Vermilion, Mary Lour Fritz of Berlin Heights, Linda Marts of Edinboro, Pennsylvania and Nancy Kerchmar of Elyria, seven grandchildren, tow great grandchildren, and sisters: Violet Spiegelberg of Oberlin and Jeanne Eppley of Elyria.

He was preceded in death by a son Gerald in 1999, by his parents Albert and Edna (nee Stolzenberg) Schroeder, a brother Robert L. Schroeder, and by a sister Ruth Moore.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Kevin Saylor, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
