Valentine S. Janicek, 78, Enjoyed playing cards and working in the yard

Valentine S. Janicek, 78, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Avon Lake, passed away suddenly, Monday, May 31 at Florida Hospital - Waterman, Traveres, Florida.

Mr. Janicek was born, January 26, 1926 in Landsford, Pennsylvania and had lived in Avon Lake for over 50 years, prior to moving to Leesburg 9 years ago.

Mr. Janicek worked as a Tool and Die Maker for River Mold and Die and then for General Motors, Elyria, where he worked for 15 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake, where he sang in the Choir. In Florida he was a member of St. Mary's of the Lakes, Eustis, FL, where he was a member of the Men's Coral Group.

He was a member of the United Autoworkers Union. He enjoyed playing cards, working in the yard and helping those in his retirement community by fixing and repairing things.

He is survived by his wife: Eleanor B. (nee Bohac), whom he married, October 28, 1950. Other survivors include 3 daughters: Monica Schnitz (James) of Leesburg, FL, Maria Benik (Michael) of Melbourne, FL, and Julie Arnold (James) of LaGrange, OH; 4 sons: Valentine Janicek, Jr. (Diane) of Avon Lake, Anthony Janicek (Pamela) of Avon Lake, Ronald Janicek (Linda) of Collins, OH and Joseph Janicek (Deborah) of Avon Lake. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 6 sisters: Alma Morana of Hazelton, PA, Sarah Icabucci of Rochester, NY, Stephanie Jasenak of Mansfield, OH, Rose Horwedel of Kinsman, OH, and Bernadine Plocinik of Coalsdale, PA.

He is preceded in death by a daughter: Carole Janicek; sister: Margaret Matula; and his parents: Valentine F. and Rose (nee Koneeny) Janicek.

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Rd. Avon Lake, Friday, June 11 from 2-4:30 and7-9 p.m. Prayer service, Saturday, June 12 at 9 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Rd., Avon Lake at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Avon.
