Hazel C. Stevens, 92, Music was her life

Hazel C. Stevens (nee McClearnon), formerly Hazel C. Nealon of Avon Lake, formerly of Cleveland, passed away June 1, 2004 at Lorain Manor, following a short illness.

She was born November 26, 1911 in Cleveland and had lived in Avon Lake with her daughter for 5 years, prior to going to Lorain Manor.

Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Cleveland Musicians Union for over 50 years. She played various instruments, but mostly bass fiddle with many area bands and orchestras. She also worked as a private music instructor.

Hazel was a member of St. Marks Church, in Cleveland. In her younger years, she enjoyed boating and fishing, however her family said that “music was her life”.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Sharon D. Wing (Tom) of Strongsville, and Kathleen T. Kelly of Avon Lake; 3 grandchildren: Colleen Graff, Daniel T. Kelly, Jr. and Kyle W. Kelly.

Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her first husband: William A. Nealon and her second husband: Casimir Stevens; and 2 step-sons: Casimir Stevens and Dr. Ned Stevens.

Friends may call the Busch Funeral Home; 163 Avon Belden Rd., Avon Lake on Thursday, June 3 from 6-8 p.m. Cremation is by Busch Crematory. A private graveside service will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.
