Margaret A. Stitak, 99, Accomplished cook and baker
Margaret A. Stitak, (nee Novak), age 99, of Lorain, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness.Mrs. Stitak was born September 5, 1905 in Lorain and had been a lifelong area resident.
She attended Holy Trinity Parish School as a youth. She went on to assist her family in the operation and management of Novak Grocery- a popular market which was formerly located on East Avenue in Central for many years. She was later employed as an assembler for the Western Automatic Corporation of Elyria during the World War II war effort. She was most recently employed as the kitchen manager for the American Slovak Club in Lorain where she was responsible for coordinating the weekly fish fries as well as wedding receptions and private parties.
A parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, she was a member of the church Altar & Rosary Society as well as a member of the church choir. She was an accomplished cook and baker and was most well known for her pies and potato pancakes. She also enjoyed sharing more than 90 years of memories and life experience with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Stitak is survived by her daughter: Darlene Jachym of Lorain; a son: Alan Andy Stitak of Prospect Heights, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband: Andrew T. Stitak in 1972; a son: Jarrett Stitak in 2001; her parents: George and Anna (nee Gercak) Novak; a brother: George Novak; and by sisters: Pauline Cajka, Mildred Burkhartte, Mary Cox, and Anna Drabik.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel; 3224 Broadway Ave. in Lorain where a rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. by members of Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of funeral mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church; 2428 Elyria Ave, in Lorain. The Rev. David Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
